I was molested twice by my uncle around the age of 12 or 13 years old. He’d inappropriately touch/ hug me. I didn’t know how to even process what was happening to me. I felt scared, confused and didn’t really know how to approach my parents. I didn’t tell my parents any of this until I was 28 years old. My dad stayed silent the whole time, and my mom said was that I should’ve told them back then, I responded saying that maybe I didn’t tell them back then because they didn’t create a safe space for us when we were kids so we could be more open about those issues, to which she replied that “it was because things like that had never happened in our family”. I dropped the subject and just went on with my day. Imagine gaining the courage to finally tell your story to your parents after 16 years, only to be made to feel like it didn’t matter. A simple, “I am sorry you had to go through that” would have sufficed tbh.
