Rarama Ride for Fiji

For the past year, I have been working with 20 local Fijian leaders to put together a book called Sex, Dating & Relationships.
The book came out of a survey of 100 Fijians, mainly female. Most (61%) never experienced their parents talking to them about sex, dating or relationships. Even more said they went into adulthood feeling ill-equipped for marriage or sex.
But the saddest statistic of all is that over half of the respondents felt as though they had failed in relationships, marriage and sex.
The taboo culture of Fiji and the lack of local resources have left many young people in the dark. They have questions, but social media, the internet or friends don’t always give helpful answers. We want to do better.
The ride I’m doing, called Rarama Ride for Fiji—’Rarama’ meaning light—is a 6,000 km journey across the United States to raise crucial funds to print the book and distribute it as widely across Fiji as possible.
Because ultimately, we want to shine a light on the issues that have been in the shadows for too long, helping our youth navigate these important years and setting them up for healthy & whole relationships.
